GC1424-838 is used with a compression test machine to determine the compressive strength of advanced ceramics at ambient temperature, as specified by ASTM C1424. ASTM specifies that the test fixture have two compression plates. One attached rigidly to the test machine, and the other not rigidly attached to the test machine to act as an interface between the machine and the test specimen. Both compression plates are made of hardened steel with hardness greater than 48 HRc. V-blocks align the test specimen and free standing compression plates.
